RANDY MILLER
Composer

Composer-Arranger-Conductor Randy Miller has, in just a few years, demonstrated a versatility that few film composers can match. From the energy and excitement of his music for Robert Towne's WITHOUT LIMITS to the Asian colors of Oliver Stone's HEAVEN & EARTH, his music engages the listener and heightens the drama of every scene.

Miller was singled out by The Hollywood Reporter for his "rousing, pulse-quickening score" for WITHOUT LIMITS, the critically praised Cruise-Wagner production about runner Steve Prefontaine. Miller was also praised by The Reporter for his work on the Todd Robinson award-winning feature documentary, AMARGOSA, "making the most out of the transcendentally reflective score."

Stone's HEAVEN & EARTH won a Golden Globe nomination for Best Score; Miller orchestrated, arranged and conducted world-music artist Kitaro's themes as well as providing additional music for the powerful Vietnam war drama. He recently won Best Film Score honors at the Hong Kong and Taiwan Film Awards for his work on THE SOONG SISTERS (co-written with Kitaro), which combined authentic Chinese folk instruments with a sweeping orchestral score.

Miller is equally proud of his jazz score for the as-yet-unreleased Norman Mailer tale THE TIME OF HER TIME, his Hitchcock-style suspense music for the Rob Lowe psychological thriller LIVING IN PERIL, and his broadly Americana score as showcased in DREAMRIDER starring James Earl Jones.

Among his other recent credits are synth/electronic scores for the Showtime series THE OUTER LIMITS (created in his state-of-the-art studio in Old Topanga), his contemporary "unplugged" music for the teen-drama PICTURE OF PRIORITY, the tender Warner Brothers drama, FAMILY TREE, and a swashbuckling orchestral score for the Tim Curry action-fantasy PIRATES OF THE PLAINS. In all, he has written music for nearly 30 films and several television series.

Miller had the distinction of becoming the first American composer to Record a movie score in Russia. His music for HELLRAISER III: HELL ON EARTH was performed by the 82 players and 30 voices of the Mosfilm State Symphony Orchestra and Choir in Moscow. In fact, Miller 's conducting and composing assignments have led him to work with diverse orchestras in many cities around the world, including London, Munich, Prague, Dublin, Miami, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Shifting effortlessly from film to television to record projects, Miller has written arrangements for country stars Trisha Yearwood and Vince Gill, hip-hop artist Michael Franti and dance-electronica performer BT. He has also conducted a series of film-music albums for the Varese Sarabande label.

"Composing film music has always appealed to me," says Miller. "I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to apply my skills in the traditional, jazz, pop/electronic and world idioms. I feel one of my strongest assets is the ability to understand the drama of a film and get to the heart of what a director is trying to communicate." Miller, who hails from Ellenville, New York is married and the father of two. He is currently scoring the film, "Go Tigers!". He is represented by David May at Zomba Screen Music.
